79 Years - 270 Acres - 534 Members

The Charleroi Sportsmen's Association started on a small parcel of land in a tiny building comprised of only a few members in 1945.

Today the 70-person capacity clubhouse alone sits on 19 acres of land providing its over 530+ members, guests and sportsmen-alike with many opportunities to call it a day either in the spacious air conditioned bar from the outdoor heat or by a wood fire stone fireplace from the outdoor cold.

The membership body is headed by 5 elected officers and 11 elected board members. Some of their duties include heading the association, assist in presiding at meetings, recording the minutes of all official meetings, dues collection, expenditures, accounting, maintenance and all other duties where assigned. In addition to the board, there are structured committees responsible for the day-to-day tasks also necessary to keep the club operational.

The Indoors

Billiards League, Shuffle Board Leagues and Horse Shoe competiton are open to member sign-ups  each year. There is also an occasional food cook-off event. The annual club picnic and other parties, along with an occasional last-minute monthly event are big affairs. The monthly meeting is the third Tuesday of every month and members are encouraged to attend and speak up about their concerns.

The Outdoors

  • A 40'x30' covered pavilion sided with operational glass paneled garage doors is host to club functions and members only rentals
  • Two automatic trap houses for trap leagues and practice
  • Multiple shooting ranges include an "adjustable distance" pistol range, a 100 yard pistol & rifle range and a 300 yard rifle range to accommodate target practice and siting-in
  • An archery range with flat and elevated shooting scenarios is tucked away for silent bow testing. Tree stand users can practice climbing and shooting from the climbing pole behind the archery range
  • Two lighted horse shoe pits are behind the club house for practice, play and league competitions

From the primary trap shoot area the club holds ham & bacon and turkey ("lucky BB") contests. Members provide their shotgun and the club supplies ammunition for the paper target competition as to who gets a BB closest to the center of the star.

The Sportsmen's Association owns and maintains 270+ acres east side of PA 43 and permits legal hunting & trapping. There are pheasant stockings for youth and adult members on this property and ground cover and plots for pheasants are planted annually.

For hunters and joy-riders alike the property has year-round open trails for ATV's, side-by-sides ("buggy's), dirt bikes and even rare sightings of trikes. During certain hunting seasons, riding is limited to Sundays and to retrieve game only.

The Hunting & Fishing

In partnership with the PA Game Commission the sportsmen's club holds an annual hunter's safety course for youths and adults. From Spring to Autumn various fishing events are held in areas granting the use of lakes for family fishing competitions. And Youth Gobbler Hunt competitions are held in the Spring.
